He was originally from Belgium, has been living near Vianden (where we had just visited—see my post from yesterday, Luxurious Travel in Luxembourg), and has visited both the Netherlands and Greece—Rhodes in particular. Just the mention of this island’s name flooded my mind with fond memories, since I have traveled to this wonderful Greek island three times so far!
The first town in Rhodes that I thought of was Lindos (opening photo). With its ancient Acropolis, surrounded by 13th century walls, and buildings built on top of Byzantine structures, Lindos is a history lesson just waiting to be explored. The steps (left) up to the Acropolis are the final portion of your climb, which begins in the large parking lot right at the start of the town. Whether you come by motorcycle, car, taxi or bus, you must disembark and continue your journey on foot. The trek is worth it, but I recommend that you visit in the early morning if possible. There is very little shade at the top! |
