I love creating a challenging game, so Image #1 (left) probably won't help you very much. Remember the show, Name That Tune? Hardly anyone ever guessed correctly with only one note. I promise, they'll get easier. But on the subject of this photo, I'm really looking forward to spring; I love flowers in bloom. Since I'm currently living in the Netherlands, and this will be my first spring in the land of tulips, I thought these beautiful arrangements from a shopping area in today's U.S. city were quite appropriate.
Another game this week for Where Oh Where Wednesday! All photos are from the same city in the United States, and hopefully, by the last image, you'll be able to venture an accurate hypothesis. But don't wait until the last image; start guessing with Image #1! I dug into my archives for today's pics. They're from a wonderful trip in June 2011 with one of my best friends.

I love food, wine, and chocolate, so Feast On It Fridays are going to focus on one or more of those things! Today is the premiere, so a little background first. Each FOIF (Feast On It Friday) will feature a review of one of the following: 1) a restaurant, 2) a recipe, 3) a farmer's market, 4) a winery or vineyard, 5) a wine bar, 6) a specific wine, or 7) a specific chocolate. The image (left) is from the laiki (farmer's market in Greek) in Palaio Faliro, Greece. Though today's first FOIF is not about the laiki, I just couldn't resist posting this photo with its rainbow of brilliant colors to entice you to the first Feast On It Friday post! Today, I'm going to review one of my all-time favorite restaurants, Eddie V's. I liked last week's game so much, I decided to make another game for this week's Where Oh Where Wednesday. Grab a small piece of paper, or open up notes on your Smart phone, and number from 1-11, yes 11, not 10! There will be 11 images, not counting this silly one of me at the Design Museum in Gent. You have three choices for each image: Brugge, Brussels, or Gent. Let's see how many you can guess correctly. I'm going to give you some more time to play this game, so answers will be posted on Instagram on Thursday and on Facebook on Saturday. Let's get started!
When we visited Gent/Ghent/Gand (Dutch/English/French) in Belgium for Valentine's Day weekend, my husband wasn't sold on the idea of buying a CityCard Gent, good for 48 hours, but when we...
This week for my Where Oh Where Wednesday, we're going to play a game! I've posted a series of images, each one bringing you closer to the answer to this week's question: Which museum? If you are able to guess it with this first image, bravo, you probably are one of my nine friends who accompanied me to this museum today! For this week's love theme, I had to post this beautifully created heart from... It's Valentine's Day on Saturday, in case you hadn't heard! I debated for quite some time about what approach I was going to take for my Love theme this week. I decided to focus on being kind to yourself, at home, or when traveling; after all, not everyone has a spouse or significant other in his or her life at the moment. Since I am a woman, the things in my Love picture above...
We were not expecting to see snow when we looked out at sunrise at the Eglise Sainte Marie-Madeleine (Armenian Apostolic Church of Mary Magdalene) from our window of the Hilton Grand Place in Brussels. But precipitation is an essential part of the water cycle, and one that I have tried to embrace while living in the Netherlands, which has weather often compared to Seattle, with rainfall and clouds for the majority of the time during winter. I've often made that blanket statement (while keeping warm and dry under a blanket), and today decided to look up the actual numbers and compare all of the places I've lived: Baltimore, Maryland (the website I used didn't have Balto., so I used Washington, D.C.); Athens, Greece; Orlando, Florida; and Utrecht, The Netherlands; as well as Seattle, Washington. The graphs for the individual cities can be found by clicking on the blue above, but I created a visual that confirms my statement, with a few surprises. First, I'll let you take a look...
I got my first digital camera in 2003. My husband was working on a special project in California, so my son, daughter, and I met him at the San Francisco airport, and we flew together to Maui for Thanksgiving vacation. He presented me with the camera at the airport and I was so excited. That gift eliminated all of the complications of the cameras-with-film world! (1) I could now view what a picture looked like and decide if I wanted to take another. (2) I didn't have to buy film. (3) I didn't have to get the whole roll of film developed, and therefore pay for photos I really didn't like. AND... Today's Where Oh Where Wednesday is a photo from 1983, when I spent a week at a ski resort in the United States. Over 30 years and 40 lbs. ago, I used to be a pretty good skier. On the afternoon of this photo, I was determined not to fall, since I had taken my Pentax K1000 to the slopes with me for the day. Oh how I wish I still had the negative for this photo, since it is showing its age, and the stress of 10 moves. My love of photography began in 1980, when I took a class with my best friend during our senior year in college. I remember our professor telling us to take our cameras everywhere. I'm sure he never imagined cell phones, let alone ones with cameras. My Pentax has been replaced by a Canon EOS Rebel T2i, but I also take an occasional photo with my iPhone--like the above photo of a printed photo! Remember: Try to guess where this photo was taken, and then check Instagram, Twitter or Facebook to see if you are correct!
It's almost midnight. You went to Pub Night with new friends from the women's club you joined when you moved to the Netherlands, and you need to catch a bus home. You don't want to wait at the bus stop in the cold for too long. What do you do? Check Google Maps! Type in where you are going, use current location for your departure address, and then hit the icon for mass transit (looks like a train). Voila, you're given a list of choices with times. Click on one, and the map will indicate the route of the bus or train with a solid line, and any walking you may have to do with a line of circles. If you are directionally challenged... |
