Nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to bikes in the Netherlands. Many are bespoke* to fit the whole family, like this modified tandem bike in the seaside resort, Scheveningen. I’ve been following the Facebook page, Le Tour Utrecht, for quite some time now, and just yesterday, they featured a video called BIKE! The amazing world of cyclists in Utrecht! This great video is the 1st of my 10 favorite videos featuring cycling in the Netherlands for today's Tech Tidbits Tuesday!
I first visited Utrecht in November 2013. I almost got run over quite a few times by bikes when I stepped inadvertently into bike paths that ran alongside pedestrian sidewalks. I was determined to learn more about the cycling culture before I moved to Utrecht, and discovered the extremely cool channel Bicycle Dutch on YouTube. Here are my 8 favorites from Bicycle Dutch. |
For my 10th favorite video, here’s one by Morten Koldby on Vimeo: Cycling Utrecht.
There you have it, my 10 favorite videos about cycling in the Netherlands. I am much more comfortable riding a bike now in Utrecht, than when I wrote, Signs of Comfort in the Netherlands in April! I haven't worked much on riding at night though, since sunset is after 10 p.m.!
Do you cycle in your hometown, whether for pleasure, exercise or commuting to work or school?
Let me know in a comment below!
Note: Queen has been my favorite group since the '70s, and I would have included Queen’s: Bicycle Race Official Video, but it was not featuring the Netherlands, and more importantly, there were nude cyclists, and this is a family-friendly website!
*bespoke=custom made. There is a running joke about this word, in the International Women’s Club I belong to, between two Americans, including me, and four from the United Kingdom!
