Nothing surprises me anymore when it comes to bikes in the Netherlands. Many are bespoke* to fit the whole family, like this modified tandem bike in the seaside resort, Scheveningen. I’ve been following the Facebook page, Le Tour Utrecht, for quite some time now, and just yesterday, they featured a video called BIKE! The amazing world of cyclists in Utrecht! This great video is the 1st of my 10 favorite videos featuring cycling in the Netherlands for today's Tech Tidbits Tuesday!

Google's My Maps. A month ago, my Tech Tidbits Tuesday post was My Custom Travel Map for Rome. My hubby and I were going to Rome, one of my dream vacation spots, for our 30th wedding anniversary, and I was creating a map. I used it thoughout our trip, and since I've returned, modified it by adding layers for each separate day. I'm pretty happy with my first map.
Tuesday morning, 7:30 a.m. Looking through my Facebook feed. Pearls and Passports (who I follow) shared a great post via Not a Ballerina (who I NOW follow) who shared a link to a Travel Blog Directory created by Gary Arndt of Everything Everywhere. Following so far?!
I clicked and WOW, an alphabetized list of travel bloggers. Many, many thanks to Gary Arndt for completing such a daunting task with such an awesome list. Not a Ballerina explained that the list was just “updated yesterday so every link works”! I tried a few of my favorites; so far, so good. But wait, some of my favorite bloggers who I've been following since January when I launched my blog weren’t on the list, so I decided to make an Addendum for my Tech Tidbits Tuesday! WHAT: My iPad and a huge mug of coffee with hazelnut creamer topped with whipped cream and caramel syrup.
WHERE: At home, in my favorite comfy couch which gives me a gorgeous view of Utrecht, or our hotel room, if we’re traveling. WHEN: Every morning, unless there’s no wifi (happened in Miltenberg, Germany). WHY: To start my day smiling while scrolling through my Instagram feed. For today’s Tech Tidbits Tuesday, I want to share with you 20 of my favorite Instagram accounts. (I’m currently following 223, so it was actually quite difficult to narrow it down to 20!) I forgot! That was my husband's response when I asked where my laminated map of Rome was for our upcoming trip! When my husband went back to the U.S. for a business trip last week, on his list of "Things to Buy" was a laminated map of Rome, preferably by DK Eyewitness Travel (like the one above of London), or Streetwise Maps (I have their map of Amsterdam). I am VERY organized when it comes to trips to places where I'm spending a limited time. I had my stickie arrows ready for my new map! My first thought was to head to downtown Utrecht, and try to find one that was in English, but then I thought of my new best friend--Google Maps! Today, I started creating my own custom map for Rome using Google Maps on my iPad--my Tech Tidbits Tuesday.
That's me last September, trying to look comfortable on my new bike in my new home, Utrecht in the Netherlands. I have to admit, it's taken me 7 months to gain a comfort level that enables me to bike around the city, maneuvering in and out of marked bike lanes and paths, get to my final destination without two many missed turns, and not worry that my bike will be stolen! In today's Tech Tidbits, I'll briefly explain two technological marvels that have enabled me to reach my current, and still growing, level of comfort!
When we visited Gent/Ghent/Gand (Dutch/English/French) in Belgium for Valentine's Day weekend, my husband wasn't sold on the idea of buying a CityCard Gent, good for 48 hours, but when we...
It's almost midnight. You went to Pub Night with new friends from the women's club you joined when you moved to the Netherlands, and you need to catch a bus home. You don't want to wait at the bus stop in the cold for too long. What do you do? Check Google Maps! Type in where you are going, use current location for your departure address, and then hit the icon for mass transit (looks like a train). Voila, you're given a list of choices with times. Click on one, and the map will indicate the route of the bus or train with a solid line, and any walking you may have to do with a line of circles. If you are directionally challenged... |
