Time for another Feast On It Friday! Perfect--we just got back from Restaurant Blauw in the city of Utrecht in the Netherlands, and my taste buds and stomach are still ecstatic about the meal I just had. When my husband made reservations on Tuesday for four of us, he had two choices for time--6:45 p.m. or 9 p.m. For most Dutch people, 9 p.m. would be too late, but we were taking my husband's cousin and his wife out to dinner, and they're all Greek--9 p.m. is early for Greeks! So, guess which time my hubby picked!? (That's him outside the restaurant where we arrived about 5 minutes early!) |
The restaurant is small, about 14 total tables, with a mixture of 2-person and 4-person tables. When we came in September, they slid 4 tables together for the 8 of us. This time we had the first table to the left, right next to the small bar. Since we had just walked almost a hour (yes, we took the scenic route for his cousin and wife--it's their first time in Utrecht) we all ordered nice cool drinks--soda for my hubby, draft beer for his cousin and wife, and a wonderful glass of Pinot Grigio for me. My husband and I knew already that we wanted the Selera Blauw Rijsttafel, or meat rice table. If you've never heard of a rice table, feast your eyes on the next two photos. |
If you are ever in Utrecht, I highly recommend Restaurant Blauw. (I will put a link here to my TripAdvisor review as soon as it is approved!) If you don't get to Utrecht, but do visit Amsterdam (about 30-minutes north of Utrecht), there is also a Blauw there as well! Haven't been to that one, but I'm sure it's just as fabulous. | Service was excellent. I felt like Goldilocks--it wasn't too fast or too slow, it was--just right! By the time we left, it was after 11, and quite dark. We wandered along a different route to come back home, but made sure to get a good view of the tall Dom Tower all lit up! |
Have you ever eaten a rijsttafel?
If so, where?
