What's the most daring thing you've ever done? For my first Throwback Thursday, I spent 4 hours creating a fabulous video (if I do say so myself) entitled 4 Minutes of Fearless! It featured my daughter and her best friend taking a ride in an inflatable contraption AKA the Flying Fish on a beautiful sunny day in July 2006 in Rhodes, Greece. The girls held on for dear life in the sparkling blue waters of Faliraki Bay, as the Flying Fish was propelled from horizontal to vertical, about 4 feet above the water, by a small motor boat that pulled the huge yellow inflatable. I was so glad that I was NOT in that scream-inducing machine! Three years later, the girls tried another daring adventure and went parasailing in Key West, Florida (image below).
This New Year, try something new! Whether in your hometown, or on your next vacation near or far, investigate what's available, and travel a little out of your comfort zone. I lived in Florida for 19 years, and there are all of the roller coasters at the theme parks, canoeing at Wekiwa Springs State Park, or bioluminescent kayak tours by moonlight in Mosquito Lagoon (yes, put on lots of mosquito repellent before you go). When I visited Park City, Utah, I rode a horse for the first time, and after I got over my fear of falling off, I enjoyed the breathtaking view down the side of the mountain. But even more frightening on that same trip, was my ride in the bobsled at the Utah Olympic Park. Four of us attended an educational conference together from Florida, but only two of us dared to climb inside and speed down the hill with our experienced driver. Though I would definitely ride a horse again, one bobsled ride was enough, but it was the most exhilarating thing I have ever done, and I highly recommend it if you have a chance! I'll always remember our driver telling me ('cause I was sitting right behind him), don't let your helmet bump into mine as we're riding, since it might affect my steering!
I'm sure you're wondering where my fabulous video is, right? Well, in 4 seconds, after I tried starting my computer today, it became a throwaway Thursday, when my hard drive on my old 2008 MacBook died. If you're curious and want a visual of the Flying Fish though, just type in "flying fish inflatable" on your favorite search engine (mine's Google), and you'll see some great images and even a few videos by others of their exciting rides. When you go on your daring adventure, don't forget to take pictures or video, but unlike me, remember to back them up immediately!
